What is the Durban FilmMart?

The Durban FilmMart (DFM) is a Co-production and Finance market taking place concurrently and in collaboration with the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF).

When is the Durban FilmMart?

The DFM will take place from 23-26 July 2010 at the 31st Durban International Film Festival (22 July – 01 August 2010

Where is the Durban FilmMart held?

The DFM will take place in Durban, South Africa.

Who can apply to enter projects?

The following are eligible to apply to the Finance Forum:

1. Projects with an African citizen attached to one of the 3 key creative roles of producer, director or writer. Proof of African citizenship or birth must be provided through a certified copy of a valid African passport/ birth certificate;

2. Africans living in the Diaspora, but who still have African citizenship or have proof of birth in Africa and

3. Projects do not have to have an African focus/subject/theme, but projects with an African focus will be given preference.

NB: Non-African industry professionals- producers, directors and writers - with projects looking for African partners can apply to be a Producers Forum delegate. Admission to the Producers Forum is by accreditation and payment of an accreditation fee. Delegates of the Producers Forum may have the opportunity to pitch at the Africa in Focus Open Pitching Fora.

What is the cut off date for applications?

Submission Deadline: 29 March 2010.

All posted and couriered materials and online applications must be in the Durban.

How do I enter my project?

What are the submission requirements?

• All submissions must be made in English.

• Full scripts brought to the Durban FilmMart in July 2010 may be in the original language of project.

a. Fiction features with theatrical potential (with a minimum of 70 minutes).

b. Animation features with theatrical potential (with a minimum of 70 minutes).

c. Documentaries (with a minimum of 48 minutes).

d. Projects suitable for international co-production

e. Productions aimed at Cinema and/or Television or new media formats

f. Projects in all stages of production, from scripts to rough cut

g. Projects with a good chance of being realised.

h. Projects with a potential for the international market

i. Projects which already have a producer

j. Projects for which a complete screenplay will be available during the Durban FilmMart.

Advantages

a. Projects that can demonstrate finance already committed

b. Projects in an advanced state of collaboration with a director/ writer

What to submit

a. Synopsis (1-2 pages),

b. Treatment (8-10 pages),

c. Directors Profile,statement and showreel,

d. Producers Profile,

e. Company profile,

f. Certified copy of a valid African passport or African birth certificate,

g. Budget outline and finance plan,

h. Letters of financial/other support

i. Two (2) production stills (for works in progress)

j. Rough cut of project (for works in progress)

Conditions

a. No entry fee for applications,

b. At least one representative of selected projects must be present at Durban FilmMart.

c. None of the submitted materials will be returned to sender.

d. No late or incomplete submissions will be considered.

e. Upon completion, the credits must mention that project was presented at the Durban FilmMart.

What kind of projects can apply?

Fiction, Animation Features and Documentary projects can apply

Are projects without finance eligible?

Yes, projects without finance are eligible. However, the project will be advantaged if it can demonstrate funds already committed to project.

What is required of me upon selection?

If your application is selected the Durban FilmMart requires the following:

1. A single representative must be present during the entire Durban FilmMart (travel and accommodation will be considered on a one-on-one basis).

2. Once the project is completed, the credits must mention that the project was presented at the Durban FilmMart

What if I don’t have a project to enter or my project is not selected?

You can apply to be a Producers Forum delegate. Admission to the Producer’s Forum is by accreditation and payment of an accreditation fee.

Can I still attend the Finance Forum if my project was not selected?

No, admittance to the Finance Forum is by invitation and accreditation to selected projects only.

Who is eligible to register for accreditation for the Durban FilmMart?

The Durban FilmMart is open for registrations to the local and international film industry.

What do I get if I register for accreditation?

As an accredited delegate, you will have access to Producers Forum programme, Africa in Focus programme, DFM Opening and Closing dinners, nightly networking events, screenings at the Durban International Film Festival (tickets subject to availability), daily lunches, coffee and tea during session breaks.

How do I pay for accreditation?

You have the following options for payment:

Option A

Direct Deposit/ Electronic Funds Transfer payment

• Deposit the registration fee into the DFM bank account,

• Email your proof of payment to info@thoughfire.co.za

• You will be sent confirmation of payment

Option B

Credit Card payment:

• Email a request for Credit Card authorisation form from info@thoughtfire.co.za and return to the same.

• You will be sent confirmation of receipt of completed form via email or fax

Please note:

You are required to bring your confirmation with you to the event.

Please ensure that you reference your payment with your first name and surname.

When does delegate registration open?

Delegate registration will open on the 7 June 2010

When is the deadline to register for accreditation?

Early bird registration closes on 12 July 2010; late registration closes on 23 July 2010

What is the fee for Early bird registration?

The fee for Early bird registration is R1250.00 ZAR

What is the fee for late registration?

The fee for late registration is R 1750.00

Are there any penalties imposed for late registration?

Delegates who register at a late stage will not be included in the DFM industry manual.

Can I register for one day only?

Yes, daily registration cost is R 350.00 per day and opens from the 23 July 2010 to the 26 July 2010. Should you opt for daily registration, you will receive one-day’s access into the allocated session with lunch. Daily registration neither includes tickets to DIFF screenings nor access into the DFM networking events.

How do I apply for Media Accreditation?

On the accreditation page, click on the Media Accreditation link, complete the application form and submit. Please note that submission of an application does not guarantee media accreditation. Accreditation to the media will be granted at the sole discretion of the DFM and is final; no correspondence will be entered into. Accreditation is not transferable.

How will I know whether or not my application for media accreditation has been successful?

If I am a guest of the Durban FilmMart, do I have to pay for accommodation?

Unless you have written confirmation of an offer to be accommodated by the DFM, please look at the options below for convenient hotels.

How do I book accommodation?

Complete the accommodation booking form on the delegate registration form and send to info@thoughtfire.co.za, please contact the same for more information.

Will there be a shuttle transfer to pick me up from the airport in Durban?

A shuttle transfer service will be provided for a fee. You have two options:

Private Transfer at a rate of R 400.00 per transfer

Shuttle Transfer at a rate of R 225.00 per person, per transfer.

What does a private transfer entail?

Should you opt for a Private Transfer you will be picked up at the exact time of your flight arrival and approximately 2 hours before flight departure from your hotel. Your name will be on notice board at the arrival point

What does a Shuttle transfer entail?

Should you opt for a Shuttle Transfer you will be picked up on the hour nearest to your flight arrival and approximately 2 hours before flight departure from your hotel in a 16 seater. Your name will be on the notice board at the arrival point.

How do I pay for the accommodation and transfers?

You have two options of payments for all bookings:

You must provide credit card details together with your completed form to ensure your booking is confirmed

OR

You must request a pro forma invoice and do a direct deposit into the bank account of the hotel/ shuttle service and email proof of payment to info@thoughtfire.co.za
